Another theft foiled

STATE-of-the-art technology employed by Hire One to protect its plant has foiled yet another attempt to steal a vehicle belonging to the business.

A dumper that had been stolen from a building site in Ely, Cardiff, was found within eight hours, discovered hidden in woodland around a mile from where it was taken. It is believed that it was taken overnight.

With the use of GPRS-equipped satellite tracking technology, Hire One was able to find the dumper using computers in its head offices in near Llantrisant. Even though wiring had been pulled out of the dumper, the thieves could not disable the tracker.

Phil Mason, managing director at Hire One, said: “This again proves how much harder it is to steal our equipment. We have these trackers fitted to nearly 150 items of plant. With the price of metal so high, there is a greater likelihood of theft from building sites. Our customers have better things to do than worry about the security of the equipment they hire from us, so we look after that side of things for them.”
